What fibromyalgia is
Fibromyalgia treatment centers on exercise, education and pacing, and fibromyalgia physical therapy is where we come in. The condition causes widespread pain with tender areas, deep fatigue, unrefreshing sleep and a mental cloudiness people call fibro fog. Scans and blood tests are usually normal, which can leave patients feeling dismissed. The pain is real. Your doctor makes the diagnosis, and we help with movement, energy and daily function.
Why gentle exercise helps
Exercise with fibromyalgia sounds backwards, but research supports low-intensity activity.
- It can raise pain tolerance over time
- It may improve sleep and energy
- It keeps muscles and joints moving, so stiffness does not build
- The dose matters: too much too soon can cause a flare
Starting slowly and managing a fibro flare
A plan you can repeat on a good day and on a bad one.
Start low
Begin with a few minutes of easy walking or gentle movement.
Add small amounts
Raise time before effort, and only when the last week felt manageable.
Plan for flares
Know your warning signs, cut the load by half during a flare, and keep moving gently.
Return to the plan
Come back up slowly as symptoms ease.
What our sessions look like
Sessions are calm, and you set the pace.
In the clinic
Low-intensity aerobic exercise, gentle strengthening, breathing and relaxation, with gentle manual therapy if you want it.
At home
A short digital home program. Sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes.
Sleep, pacing and energy management
We teach pacing: splitting tasks, resting before you are exhausted, and keeping a steady week. Sleep habits matter too, and we share what we know and encourage you to talk with your doctor about sleep. For persistent pain in general, see Chronic Pain. Fibromyalgia often travels with joint pain, covered on arthritis and joint pain.
