Fall Prevention
A fall prevention program starts with an evaluation of your health and fall risk, then builds balance, strength and walking training around what we find, so a fear of falling does not keep you from being active. PAR Physical Therapy runs fall prevention programs in Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, for older adults and anyone who feels unsteady.

Don’t let a fear of falling keep you inactive
Many falls can be prevented, and a physical therapy team can help. A collaborative effort between your doctor and our therapists can make a difference to your fall risk.
This program is for anyone who has had a fall, feels unsteady on their feet when walking, or is afraid of falling.
What your fall risk evaluation looks at
Everyone is different, so the evaluation covers several parts of your health and movement.
- Strength and flexibility testing
- Your walking (gait) patterns
- Your health history
- Sight and hearing screenings
- Blood pressure
- Assistive or adaptive device use, with education
- Footwear recommendations
- A review of your medications and their side effects, together with your physician
What the program can include
Treatment varies from person to person and is built from what your evaluation finds.
- Strength training
- Balance training
- Flexibility exercises
- Visual exercises
- Functional exercises
- Weight-bearing exercises
- Sleep hygiene
- Risk reduction education
- A personalized home program
When another condition is behind the unsteadiness
Falls often have more than one cause. Dizziness from the inner ear is treated through vestibular rehabilitation, and balance can also be affected by peripheral neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke and arthritis.
Our balance and gait training page explains the walking and balance work in more detail. People with Parkinson’s disease can also ask about LSVT BIG.
