Post-surgical physical therapy helps you prepare for surgery and recover after it, following your surgeon's protocol. We see joint replacements, ligament and tendon repairs, spine surgeries and fracture repairs. Following your surgeon's protocol
Surgeons set the limits: when you can bear weight, how far you can move, and when you can lift. We follow them, tell your surgeon how you are progressing and ask when something looks off. If surgery was for arthritis, our arthritis and joint pain page covers the rest of the picture.
What recovery looks like week to week
Every surgery differs, so your therapist gives a timeline for yours.
- Early weeks: pain, swelling and scar management, and getting moving safely
- Middle weeks: range of motion restored, then progressive exercise and gait training
- Later weeks: strength, balance and return to work, hobbies and sport
- Hands-on manual therapy throughout, with a home program

Many patients are not told that they can choose their physical therapy clinic. We accept most insurance plans, and we will check your benefits. Same-day appointments are possible, which can matter right after surgery. Ask your surgeon for a prescription and bring it with you.
